AI Use Policy

I use AI tools in my work, and I want to be upfront about where and how, so nothing here is mistaken for something it isn't. This page is my standing policy, not a disclaimer I'll bolt onto individual posts.

Why I use AI at all

I have a full-time job and a young family, which means I have far more ideas than I have hours. What I'm usually short on isn't ideas. It's the time to turn an idea into a finished article, talk, or project. I use AI to shrink that gap between idea and output. I don't use it to supply the idea, and I don't use it to hand me a finished product.

Writing

Every article on this site starts as my own idea and is written by me. I may use AI to help think through an outline or as an editor, pushing back on structure and catching clarity issues, but the words are mine. I will never publish an AI-written post under my name.

This website

The brand (colors, logo) is entirely mine, built without AI. For the site itself, I used AI to help with content and layout, working under my direction throughout. I made the calls, AI helped execute them faster.

The portrait

The photo of me on this site is AI generated. Getting a decent photo taken of yourself, on schedule, while working full time and raising a young family, turns out to be its own small project. So I cut that corner. It's a reasonable likeness, not a photograph.

The short version

AI helps me go faster from idea to output. It doesn't generate the ideas, and it doesn't produce the final product. That's always me.
